COMPASSION CAMP is a week-long summer program for students who have completed grades 6-9.  This day camp is sponsored jointly by the First Congregational Church of Woodstock and the East Woodstock Congregational Church.  The camp provides service learning for youth in a variety of local settings.

Compassion Camp 2012 will be held during the week of July 23-27.

Here’s what our youth say about Compassion Camp:

“I learned how to be more patient when we worked with the people from Center of Hope. I saw how difficult things were for them and I wanted to help in any way I could.”

“I think the blessing I got from the week was having a chance to give back.”

“ I will volunteer more often as a result of Compassion Camp.”

Begun in the summer of 2006, Compassion Camp activities have included a variety of service and recreational activities for middle school youth.  Over the past several summers, our campers have enjoyed:

  • Picking blueberries at Woodstock Orchards
  • A visit with a Fidelco Guide Dog
  • Serving lunch at the Senior Café
  • Assisting with Unified games with clients from the Center of Hope
  • Harvesting vegetables at the People’s Harvest Garden,
  • Playing Laser Tag

As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with COMPASSION, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord* has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.                                                            ~Colossians 3:12-14
